With the new school year starting and me having a first grader and kindergartener this year, I knew we needed to make up a schedule. I am sort of grids and charts obsessed. Anyway, my girls don't know how to tell time yet, so I wanted to make sure that I put the time on our routine chart both with a clock with hands (so they could learn) and digitally so they get a better sense of managing their time. My older daughter doesn't have ADD (I have tested her) but definite tendencies, some of which are: she is easily distracted, has a hard time during transitions between activities, and isn't great at managing her time doing most things. Most things I have read talk about how a regular routine really helps kids in general, but especially ones that aren't good at transitions and time management. We are still working on our reading, so I also added some google images to our chart. So far I have been pleased with this. I will give them a heads up of what time we are going to start...say homework and tell them to check their schedules so they can look at the clock and start getting used to the idea of knowing "okay, we have X amount of time until we start homework" or whatever. Maybe that is asking too much of a 5 and 6 year old, but they seem to like looking at the schedule and it is alleviated some of the tantrums that regularly occur during some of our activity transitions. That was probably way more explanation than needed, but here is our new school routine. It has been helpful for us, so I thought I would share.
