Back to School Schedules

With the new school year starting and me having a first grader and kindergartener this year, I knew we needed to make up a schedule. I am sort of grids and charts obsessed. Anyway, my girls don't know how to tell time yet, so I wanted to make sure that I put the time on our routine chart both with a clock with hands (so they could learn) and digitally so they get a better sense of managing their time.  My older daughter doesn't have ADD (I have tested her) but definite tendencies, some of which are: she is easily distracted, has a hard time during transitions between activities, and isn't great at managing her time doing most things.  Most things I have read talk about how a regular routine really helps kids in general, but especially ones that aren't good at transitions and time management. We are still working on our reading, so I also added some google images to our chart. So far I have been pleased with this. I will give them a heads up of what time we are going to start...say homework and tell them to check their schedules so they can look at the clock and start getting used to the idea of knowing "okay, we have X amount of time until we start homework" or whatever. Maybe that is asking too much of a 5 and 6 year old, but they seem to like looking at the schedule and it is alleviated some of the tantrums that regularly occur during some of our activity transitions.  That was probably way more explanation than needed, but here is our new school routine. It has been helpful for us, so I thought I would share.

Thats great. Do you have one chart for summer time too?

Amita, I have a summer one, but it doesn't have the pictures. If you are interested in these charts and the summer one, I could email them to you. They are Microsoft office files. Let me know. :) I also have a summer chore chart we do.

This is awesome. Would you be able to e-mail me a copy? I really hope this chart helps me manage time with my kids.

Elizabeth, I would love to email you one. If you want to give me your email address in a comment, I will use it to send you a copy and then erase the comment.

Hello! I was scouring the internet for back to school schedule examples and found yours. I love the idea of including the clocks to give a visual time reminder. Please send if you are still doing that! Thanks, Sheryl

How do I send you my email without posting it on the board? Thanks! I am new to the blogger world. Do I have to click on open ID?

Rachel said...

Everyone else just posted it here and then as soon as I get the address I erase your comment. You can see above the previous comments that were handled the same way. It is up to you if you want to do that or not. :)

I'd love a copy if you're still making them out. I don't want to leave my address hanging out here if you're not so I'll wait for a reply.

ashley, I apologize for the delay. Yes, I would be happy to send you the schedule. I will get it to you in a timely manner once I have your email address. :) Thanks for checking out the blog.
